LESSON PROGRAMS
LEVELS AND CURRICULUM
Riding Levels for Madison Riding Academy:
The following is a list of guidelines for the levels at MRA. The skills that are listed below each level will be practiced in class and must be perfected in order to move on to the next level. There is no time period for each level, riders are placed and promoted to the next level on a case-by-case basis, according to their skill, effort and ability. Some riders may take longer than others to master the skills needed for the next level. This is OK!!! It is good to strive for the next level, and to work hard to get there, but do not put too much emphasis on the label. Everyone needs to feel like they belong, and no one should feel inferior or superior to anyone else based on their level.
Also, wearing proper riding attire and a helmet during lessons is very important in learning and achieving riding skills, and not to mention the safety issue! Helmets are provided at the stable. We have found, children who are not properly dressed do not perform as well as those who are. All riders need to be wearing hard-soled boots, with a half-inch heel. (A half-inch heel is best because it is enough to prevent the foot from slipping through the stirrup, but not too high that it is hard to push the heels down in the stirrups). Also, once in the intermediate class, it will be required that breeches/ jodhpurs are worn, along with riding gloves. All sports have their equipment that is necessary, such as kneepads for soccer, or helmets for football. In riding, boots, pants and gloves are important factors to consider. If you need assistance or advice in purchasing any of these items, just ask an instructor. (We have various catalogs in the stable store, and if shopping online is easier, we can tell you where to look.)
